Indy City Commission Accepts Request for Statue

The Independence City Commission has accepted a request from VFW Post 1186 to place a state of Remington, a dog, near 1916 City Hall. Remington has served as a mascot for the Independence Fire Department for years. The commission approved the project with the knowledge that they would receive a full plan before proceeding. Commission member Leonhard Caflisch said he believes all statues in the city should tell a story, and as a result, he'd like to see a plaque telling the story of Remington as part of that plan.

With approval in place, the VFW will now begin fundraising with any excess funds being donated to the Fire/EMS Department for fire safety. The American Legion Post 139 and Mossy Kennel also partnered with the VFW in coming up with the request.
