Big Boy Rolling Into Coffeyville

Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014 steam locomotive will be rolling into Coffeyville soon.

The 1.2 million pound locomotive will be making a stop in Coffeyville on November 16th at about 4:30 p.m, where it can be seen at Colorado St. and Atlantic St. before it departs the next day at 8:00 a.m. The Big Boy will also be making brief stops in Neodesha and Durand before making tis way toward Kansas City, Topeka, and Lawrence.

According to Union Pacific's website, Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled over a million miles over 20 years.  Union Pacific reacquired No. 4014 from the RailGiants Museum in Pomona, California, in 2013, and relocated it back to Cheyenne to begin a multi-year restoration process. It returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad's Completion.
