Two presentations took place at Thursday's Independence City Commission meeting, including one from Independence Main Street during which the organization requested an increase of $5,000 to $25,000 for 2020. If accepted, the increase would represent the first in several years. In the past, the budget was higher than $25,000, but was lowered to the current amount by a previous commission.

Currently, the Independence Main Street organization offers several programs in its efforts to improve the city. Some of these include the Summer Sidewalk sale, the Pub Crawl, the Sip and Shop and more.

The other presentation at the meeting, a similar budget request from the Independence Public Library, saw the library ask for no additional money for 2020.
