Potential Ban on Firearm Assessories

Do you think firearm assessories are protected by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution? Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt believes it extends beyond a firearm to include some of types of firearm assessories. Schmidt led a group of eight state attorneys general Tuesday, Feb. 19 in filing a legal brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an appeal and reverse a recent ruling by the Tenth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which held that firearm accessories are not protected. Schmidt says Kansas citizens recently and overwhelmingly voted to amend the Kansas Constitution to reaffirm that an individual “has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose, and also the right to “hunt... by the use of traditional methods”. Schmidt said the Tenth Circuit's unsupported conclusion threatens citizens' right to enjoy these time-honored pursuits, and he pointed out that the decision is so sweeping that Congress could ban all ammunition. He said this cannot be correct. Kansas is joined by Arkansas, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah.
