The Independence City Commission throws down the green flag on drag races at the Independence Airport. Commissioners approve a request from Airport Manager Cody Shamblin and Ryan Fischer of SHIFT-S3CTOR to have the races in May.  SHIFT-S3CTOR specializes in a half mile drag airport runway races. Fisher says the group views Independence as a central vicinity for regular competitors and attendees from Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Wichita and Tulsa.  Fisher already received approval from airport management to conduct the drag races, which will include professional drivers in Lamborghinis and amateurs in modified rides. 

The event is scheduled for May 25 and 26.
