Kansas Congressman Ron Estes takes time to honor the commissioning of the USS Wichita on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. The USS Wichita, the U.S. Navy’s newest Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship, was commissioned over the weekend in Mayport, Florida. Estes says as
the third USS Wichita in U.S. Naval history, the ship will carry on a proud legacy of representing Kansas’ largest city around the globe.
The 387-foot-long ship can travel at speeds up to 40 knots and support near-shore or open-ocean missions.
