Independence Police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of E. Oak for a suspicious package. A caller reported to police a package was left on the front porch. As the caller described the contents of the package to the officers they became concerned it could be some sort of improvised explosive. IPD Arson Investigator Derek Bryant arrived and requested the Kansas Highway Patrol Bomb Squad. Upon examination it was determined the package contained the contents of several disassembled incendiary and ignition devices contained in what was originally a large fireworks box that had been disassembled, not ignited.

Police are still seeking persons of interest in the case although no charges are expected at this time.
