Representative Doug Blex on School Security

Improving our school safety and training in the event of an active shooter is something the state of Kansas takes seriously. Granting over 5 million last year in enhancing schools around the state, but not all the money went into teacher training, some districts also focused on the well being of the student. Providing buddy benches and other anti bullying tactics. Blex did mention that districts for the upcoming year have requested more than 13 million dollars in enhancements. Meaning legislature will need to address the matter in the upcoming session as Blex is hopeful we continue improving the safety in our schools. He also did mention the regulations regarding certain safety measures did need to be revised. As in some cases fire code constricts with certain active shooter precautions, which at some points could create a more dangerous situation.
