Small Kansas Plane Crashes in Northeast Oklahoma

A fiery plane crash in Oklahoma claims at least five lives of people with ties to Independence. The plane, registered out of Independence,  crashed into a field near Ponca City.  Reserve Deputy Larry Burtner tells Ponca City Now that there were no survivors.   It is believed there were three adult and two children on on board.  Kay County Sheriff’s investigators are securing the scene until the Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB arrive. The FAA’s Lynn Lunsford tells  KGGF News the single-engine Extra EA400 crashed under unknown circumstances just before noon shortly after taking off from Ponca City Regional Airport in Ponca City. The aircraft was destroyed by a post-crash fire. That aircraft has seating for six.

No information has been released regarding the identities of those on board.  However, the Independence Rural Fire Department says a Sycamore firefighter was one of the victims in the following post on social media:

With immense sadness we have lost one of our own from our Montgomery County Rural Fire family. Earlier today Sycamore Firefighter Nicholas Warner, 2 of his sons, his dad Bill, and friend Tim Valentine passed away in an aircraft accident outside of Ponca City Oklahoma.

Our deepest Sympathies go to Brenda, Kaylee, Lisa, Jessica and their entire families and dear friends.

We will post service details when they become available.
