A roadwork task force was formed awhile back to tackle unfinished roadwork around the state of Kansas and a couple here in Montgomery County. KDOT’s Wayne Gudmundson spoke to the Independence commissioners as he needs to know if the 160-169 project is still a priority. The commissioners approved the measure as they say, due to the high number of fatalities something needs to be done. Gudmundson said the design is an overpass and is optimistic that we will receive the funding to do so. Just as Coffeyville and Montgomery County commissioners, Independence approved the measure. Gudmundson says why would we be receiving the go ahead on the planning of right aways and utility relocation if they weren’t seeming to make it a priority Gudmundson wanted to stress again that this approval does not mean we get the funding. It just acknowledges Independences approval of the roadwork. All 3 commissioners are adamant about fixing a very dangerous intersection.
