UPDATE: Shots Fired in Independence

 

Yesterday at about 1:48 pm the Independence Police Department was dispatched to the 700 block of Cherry Street for a report of shots fired. The incident originated as an ongoing dispute between the parties. Victims allege the suspects unlawfully entered the victim’s home while carrying a baseball bat. The victim felt threatened and made verbal threats. The suspects fled and returned with a firearm. It is believed that a suspect then fired rounds into the ground and one in the vicinity of the victim. No injuries were reported.

 

29 year old Melinda Joseph of Independence was arrested for aggravated assault and burglary. 38 year old Paul Joseph of Moline, Kansas, was arrested for aggravated assault, burglary, endangering a child, and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling. A juvenile male, also of Moline, Kansas, was taken into custody for burglary and aggravated assault. A firearm and shell casings were seized as evidence.
