Memorial Day is this weekend and at Riverside Park you’ll find a bunch of activities. Starting at 10 am will be the kick off of the Mid-Continent Band’s 2018 season. Director of the Independence Chamber of Commerce Lisa Wilson explains the group is a community band that has been going strong for 100 years and will be performing a full memorial service in the Mount Hope cemetery. If you can’t make the 10 o’clock performance, remember the band will play every following Tuesday in the Riverside Park Bandshell. In the afternoon they are starting up something new and very cool to tribute our wars and the veterans who were apart of them. Large granite squares with information of all the wars even dating back to the Declaration of Independence. After almost 2 years in the works the memorial will finally get it’s dedication at 2 pm this memorial day at the Riverside Park. Go show your support for your community and for your country.
