I.P.D. Employment Requirements

Can anyone become a Police officer? Popular belief is any and everyone is allowed to become a Police officer. Though every station will have open arms about people interested in joining the force, Independence Police Chief Jerry Harrison tells us not everyone will be considered. Extensive criminal background checks, credit check, and a deeper analysis of your references. Not only will they call your reference but will gain more by asking if their are any other people who can speak on your behalf. Giving a deeper look at your history and your character. Once the preliminary steps have been completed you will then have to undergo psychological and physical testing. You’ll also need to appear in front of a panel of seasoned officers and other emergency service members, as they will see if your fit for the following stages. Chief Harrison also says, if maybe your credit may have taken a dive in the early years or any other areas, but you have shown you are a responsible individual from that, you will still be up for consideration. The only absolute is if you have a prior domestic violence charges, or any other criminal offenses.
