Red Flag Fire Warning In Effect

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Red Flag Warning for extreme grassland fire danger, which is in effect from 1 PM til 8 PM today. Tomorrow, Thursday the 12th also has a burn ban in effect into the evening around 8 pm; Extreme grassland fire danger is most certainly in the forecast. With southern winds up to 20 to 30 mph the next few days, and gusts up over 40 mph, and relative humidity getting as low as 28 percent the National weather service has put Montgomery County and many others in south eastern Kansas in a red flag warning. A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please notify your local Fire Department if you see a wildfire developing.
