One of the longest tenured women's basketball coaches in the Jayhawk conference will be stepping down following next season, to become Butler Community College's next Athletic Director.
Mike Helmer has been named the 19th AD in Butler history, and takes over for Todd Carter, who announced his retirement last month.
Helmer has been the head women's basketball coach for 17 seasons, winning 382 games and four KJCCC regular season titles, along with two Region VI championships. He is also a four-time KJCCC Coach of the Year winner.
Helmer will spend one final season as the head coach for the Lady Grizzlies, who finished fourth in the standings with a 23-8 record. Butler returns KJCCC Freshman of the Year Ashley Singhateh, as well as impact freshmen Destiny Smith, Mya Mayberry, Kenzie Galliart, and former Fort Scott star Keegan Yarrick.
