Joyce Jearldine Schmidt, 93, formerly of Coffeyville passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at Villa Maria in Mulvane, Kansas.
She was born on May 5, 1930, in Sedan, Kansas to Herb A. and Ival (Terrill) Davis. Joyce grew up and attended school in Sedan graduating from Sedan High School.
After completing her education Joyce moved to Park City, Kansas and later to Wichita where she worked as a telephone operator and later worked at 4th National Bank in Wichita.
On June 5, 1965, she married Marvin “Smitty” Schmidt. Following their marriage, they made their home in Wichita where her husband owned a Refrigeration Company for many years and Joyce was bookkeeper for the business. The couple enjoyed dancing and travelling, and Joyce enjoyed caring for her Poodle. Her husband preceded her in death on December 12, 1991.
In the early 2000’s Joyce moved to Coffeyville to be closer to her family, while in Coffeyville she was a member of Westside Christian Church. In 2019 she moved to Oxford, Kansas where she lived until moving to Mulvane in 2022.
Survivors include one son Richard Schmidt; four grandchildren Colleen (Steven) Nicholson, Geri (Marvin) Thorp, Sarah (Patrick) Mitchell, and Christopher (Jeri) Schmidt; one nephew Randy (Peggy) Dye, nieces, Beverly Stark, Rita Cline, Amy Finney, and Linda Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
Graveside Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 U.S. 54, Wichita, Kansas.
Friends may call on Monday, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
