Dr. Stephen A. Miller D.O.

 

Dr. Stephen A. Miller D.O., of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A dedicated and empathetic OB GYN, Stephen was a beloved figure in his community, known for his compassionate spirit and the love he held for his family. He was a pillar of strength and kindness, an inspiring presence to all who knew him. Throughout his life, Stephen dedicated himself to his faith, his profession, and his loved ones, making a lasting, positive impact on countless lives.

 

He was born on February 9, 1947 in Hamburg, Iowa, to Guy and Ruth (Newton) Miller.

Steve grew up and attended school in Joplin, Missouri graduating from Joplin High School. Steve was in the first graduating class of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, he received his master's degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas and received his doctorate degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine.  After completing Medical School he served as a doctor in the U.S. Navy stationed at Naval Hospitals in Hawaii, San Diego, California and Lemoore, California, after being discharged from the Navy Dr. Miller opened his medical practice in Coffeyville in June of 1987.

 

Stephen was a loving husband to Paula Miller, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage. He was a devoted father and grandfather, who cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. Stephen was also a passionate sports enthusiast and an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs. He relished in the joy of fishing, hunting, and coaching his children in baseball. Stephen's love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren. His legacy of love and dedication will live on through them.

 

Stephen is survived by his wife, Paula; his children, Kimberly (Jonathan) Sims and children, Carter and Grant, Suzie (David) Powell and children, Brian, Scott, and Madison, Timothy (Amanda) Miller and children, Tyler, Zach, and Macyn, Bryan (Carissa Walsh) Miller and child, Austin, Brian Hefley and children, Ashlyn(Hunter) Turrell, and Lisa (Bryan) Lang and children, Hayden, Hudson, and Harper; bonus grandchildren, Gavin Simpson and Khloe Stimpson;  and his sisters, Gail Greenfield and Annie (Mike) Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Ruth Miller, and his sister, Patricia Gibson.

 

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.

 

Funeral Services celebrating Dr. Miller's life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Yves Kinangwa officiating.

 

The family suggests memorials in Dr. Miller's memory to the First United Methodist Church; contribution may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
