Loyd Alvin Fields

Loyd Alvin Fields, age 77, went home to Jesus on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after complications from open heart surgery. 

 

Loyd was born on his childhood farm north of Caney, Kansas on January 12, 1946, to Clyde and Vera Fields.  Loyd graduated from Caney High School in 1964.  Later from Kansas State University in 1969 with a BS in Horticulture. 

 

Loyd married Patty Sullivan on July 29, 1967.  After a short employment with the Topeka Park Service, he and Patty returned to Caney to purchase and operate the Fields Greenhouses and Flower Shop.  After its closing in 1986, Loyd farmed and ranched. 

 

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Vera Fields; stepmother, Nina Fields; his brother, Dwight Fields; sister-in-laws, Marianna Brant and Marsha Fields; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Sullivan. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Patty; his sons, Kelly and wife, Sara of Nixa, Missouri, Shane and wife, Marisha of Sedan, Kansas; grandchildren, Josh and Kayla Fields, Kelsey Fields, Ella Edwards, Ester Dancey, Emmett Fields, Hadley Fields, Hayden Fields, Harley Fields, and Hayven Fields; great-grandchildren, Ava, Paisleigh, Greyson and Declan; sister, Linda and husband, Warren Newby; brother-in-law, Richard Brant; sister-in-law, Carla Sullivan, 2 step-sisters, Sandra Nesbitt and Sheryl Maxwell, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

 

Following Loyd's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. 

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Caney, Kansas.  Pastor Brad Sanders will officiate. 

 

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Caney, Kansas. 

 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Cornerstone Church; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
