Sharylon Joan DeMott

Sharylon Joan DeMott, a beloved wife, mother, and nurse, passed away on August 15, 2023, in Coffeyville, Kansas. Sharylon 's passing occurred at Medicalodges on Midland in Coffeyville, Kansas, where she received exceptional care during her declining health years after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

 

Sharylon was born on December 22, 1933, in Independence Kansas, to Paul Otis and Lois Matilda (Johnson) O’Brien.  She received her education at Liberty and Richland grade schools. She married in 1951 prior to completing High School, and after moving to El Paso, Texas in 1957 she completed her GED before pursuing her passion for nursing. In 1967, she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse Degree in Denison, Texas. Sharylon continued her studies and obtained her Associate Registered Nurse Degree in Chanute, Kansas in 1988. She furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1990.

 

Throughout her career as a nurse, Sharylon made a significant impact on the lives of many patients. She worked at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center and served as a dedicated nurse in Denison for several years. After 18 years of employment at CRMC, she semi-retired in 1995.

 

In addition to her successful career, Sharylon found great joy in living on acreage with gardens and pastures alongside her husband Marion Dean DeMott. As they grew older together, their favorite outages were to local casinos to try their luck.  

 

Sharylon 's proudest accomplishments centered around being a devoted wife, loving mother to Ronald Dean DeMott and Diana Lynn DeMott. Family meant everything to Sharylon, and she embraced the role of caregiver with immense love and dedication.

 

Sharylon is survived by her children Ronald Dean DeMott and Diana Lynn DeMott; two grandchildren:  Joshua DeMott and Nancy (DeMott) Matsuzawa: two great grandchildren Allen and Shona Matsuzawa; and one brother Larrry O’Brien.  She was preceded in death by her parents Paul Otis and Lois Matilda O'Brien; husband Dean; siblings; J. D. O’Brien; Edwin O’Brien; Jack O’Brien; Pat O’Brien; Leotis (O’Brien) Freeman; and Georganna (O’Brien) Smith.

 

Sharylon Joan DeMott will be remembered for her unwavering love as a wife, mother, and nurse. Her compassionate spirit touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting legacy within the community she served. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. 

 

Sharylon 's beloved husband preceded her in death on January 11, 2021, during the pandemic not allowing his family to honor him the way they desired. On August 18, 2023, friends and family will gather to honor the life of Marion Dean and Sharolyn Joan DeMott during a Funeral Service at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel located at 2405 Woodland Ave in Coffeyville, Kansas. The service will begin at 2:00 PM and graveside services will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery North of Coffeyville.
