Sonja S. Lukens, 73, of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

 

 She was born on March 14, 1950, in Coffeyville to Ralph E. and Julia J. (Dennis) Zillifro.

Sonja was a proud graduate of Field Kindley High School, Coffeyville Community College, and Pittsburg State University, reflecting her ambitious spirit.

 

On April 2, 1980, she married the love of her life Larry A. Lukens.  She spent her life as a dedicated homemaker, cultivating a warm and welcoming environment that resonated with her caring nature. Sonja was also known for her love of sewing and shopping, hobbies that brought her joy and satisfaction. Her greatest pleasure, though, was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Sonja's love for them was boundless and she was their guiding light.

 

Sonja is survived by her sons, Roy (Laresa), Randy (Crystal), and Chuck, Matthew, Jamie (Amber English) Lukens; her daughters, Tina (David) Myers, and Cassie Lukens; her sisters, Stephanie Boley and Sallie (Scott) Usher; her brother, Steve (Peggy) Zillifro; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Lukens, her daughter Terri Searles, and her parents, Ralph and Julia Zillifro.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 12:00pm to 8:00pm at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 10:00am at the Coffeyville First Nazarene Church, 2300 West 1st Street, Coffeyville, Kansas with Reverend Ford Hall officiating.

 

The family suggests memorials to Coffeyville First Church of the Nazarene; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337
