Shirley June (Greenwood) Pirkey

Shirley June (Greenwood) Pirkey, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away in Bartlesville, Oklahoma at the The Journey Home at the age of 79.

 

Shirley was born on June 1, 1944, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Charles Edward and Ruth Pearl (Beeson) Greenwood. Her family moved to Mound Valley, Kansas when she was a year old where she spent most of her life.  As a teen she lived in California where she graduated from high school in 1962.  In 1979 Shirley moved to Coffeyville, and attended Coffeyville Community College where she earned her associate degree.

 

Shirley worked in various positions over the years but her most important job was being a Mom.  Shirley’s first child was born in 1963 and her baby was born in 1973. The first grandchild arrived in 1983, and the great grandchildren are still arriving.   Being a homemaker, she had many more titles in addition to mom and grandma, she was a daughter, a sister, a wife, an aunt and a faithful friend.  She was very particular about her home, making sure that everything had its place, and it was returned to its place. Shirley's faith was very important to her. Her daily Bible reading, and prayer time was a priority. Shirley enjoyed reading, crocheting, dancing, and working puzzles but what she enjoyed most was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family of many loved nieces, nephews and greats nieces and nephews.

 

Shirley is survived by her children Tenise Fine, Terry Lee Tippen, Trent Tippen, Tanya Palmer; 8 grandchildren Eric, Austin & Jamie, Alyssia, Barbara, Gina, Hercules, Kimberly and Emma and 3 great grandchildren Landon, Whitney, Blake; siblings Victor Greenwood, and Charles Greenwood. Shirley's family will often be reminded of her crazy since of humor as they reflect on their memories of her. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Pirkey; daughter Trenia Elizabeth Tippen; grandson Donovan Prince Tippen; siblings Betty Wylie, Robert Greenwood, and Mary Greenwood. Shirley's family will often be reminded of her crazy since of humor as they reflect on their memories of her. 

 

Graveside funeral services will be held under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel of Coffeyville on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11 am at Richland Cemetery in Angola, Kansas.  The family request memorial contributions to be made payable to The Journey Home and may be left in care of the chapel.  To leave an online condolence, share a memory or view the streaming of her services, visit www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com under her obituary page.
