Donald "Don" R. Martin

Donald "Don" R. Martin, a humble and loving man, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at his home at the age of 65. Born on November 12, 1957, in Coffeyville, Kansas to James "Bud" and Rachel (Graves) Martin. He grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School and attending Coffeyville Community College. Don spent his entire life in the community he loved. He was a thoughtful and devoted husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

While in high school and college Don was active in the music department. In high school he played trumpet in the marching band and sang in the choir and a vocal group. At the college he sang and played the baritone in the marching band.

 

He married Mary McDonald, and they had three daughters, Angi, Amber, and Ashley. They were later divorced.

 

Don married his beloved wife, Deborah "Debbie" J. McElroy, on June 5, 1987, in Dodge City, Kansas and gained two more daughters, together they built a life filled with love and laughter. He was employed as a Sheet Metal Assembler at Cessna Aircraft Company, where he demonstrated the same dedication and hard work that he gave to his family and friends. In his free time, Don enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, smoking meat, and gardening. His love for nature was evident to all who knew him.

 

He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Coffeyville all of his life, he was very active in the young people's groups and sang in the church choir for many years.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Debbie of the home, his daughters, Angi Womeldorff and husband, Matt of Augusta, Kansas, Amber Parker and husband, Shawn of Coffeyville, Ashley Woods and husband, Kent of Cache, Oklahoma, Jenni Ploger and husband, Todd of Deerfield, Kansas, and Amber Clark and husband, Brad of Westwood, Kansas, his mother, Rachel Martin of Coffeyville, his sister Sheila Lander and husband, Don of Nixa, Missouri, and sister-in-law, Lori Martin of Pittsburg, Kansas,  twelve grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, James "Bud" Martin, and brother, Jim Martin.

 

Friends may call on Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends on Sunday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God, 1504 West 8th Street, Coffeyville, Kansas, 67337.

 

The family suggests memorials to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (“ALS” Assoc.); contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
