James “Jim” A. Sterk, 88, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at his home.
He was born May 27, 1934, at Parsons, Kansas to Joseph and Mary Gertrude Sterk. Jim spent his early years in Parsons where he attended grade school and junior high school, when he was a freshman in high school his family moved to Coffeyville where he completed his education graduating from Field Kindley High School.
On November 28, 1962, he married Beth Elaine Burns in Miami, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, they made their home in Coffeyville where Jim was employed as a cabinet maker. He worked for Bob Hulet for many years making wood furniture parts for Rok-A-Chair, Jim later worked for American Craftsman until retiring. His wife preceded him in death on February 13, 2016.
Jim was a longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and was an avid Kansas University Basketball and Notre Dame Football fan. But his greatest pleasure was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, James Sterk and wife Charity of Coffeyville, Julie Dodson and husband Drew of Summerfield, NC, and David Rice of Little Rock, Arkansas. eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Elaine Sterk, two brothers and five sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father James Schibi officiating. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
