Vincent P. Thompson, Sr.

Vincent P. Thompson, Sr. age 73, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his home in Independence. 

 

Vincent was born on August 7, 1949, in Independence, Kansas to Donald and Ruby (Reeves) Thompson.  He attended Independence Schools. He owned Wichita Insurance Pool working as broker for insurance companies until 1995 when he sold his business and retired.

 

On November 8, 1975, he was united in marriage to Nancy Schlegel.  The couple lived in Holdenville, Oklahoma for two years in Wichita, Kansas for five years, and the rest of the time they lived in Independence, Kansas.  He attended First Southern Baptist Church.  Vincent enjoyed building homes, woodworking and rebuilding cars. 

 

Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Nancy Thompson of the home; children, Vincent Thompson Jr. and wife, Lotus, Michelle Tunnell and husband, Troy, Bryan Thompson and wife, Kathy, April Thompson; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Hancock, sisters, Dena Greer and Machell Hastings along with numerous extended relatives and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Ruby and George Bullock. 

 

Following Vincent’s wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. 

 

A Memorial Service will be held by his family on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church, 918 W Chestnut St, Independence, KS.  Pastor Todd Peebles will officiate.  The family will also be having a visitation on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 5:30-7:00 at First South Baptist Church.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 1503 W. 11th St., Coffeyville, KS 67337 or in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
