Margaret Ethel Thompson

Margaret Ethel Thompson, age 90, Coffeyville, Kansas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville surrounded by her loving family.

 

Margaret was born on July 26, 1929 in Sedan, Kansas to Evertt and Violet (Straight) Smith.  She grew up in Sedan where she attended school.  Margaret graduated from Sedan High School in 1946.  Margaret was baptized with her brother, Leon and sister, Eva Lee at the First Christian Church in Sedan, Kansas on February 24, 1942.

 

On October 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Thompson in Sedan, Kansas.  The couple originally made their home in Sedan.  They then moved to Taylor, Texas for a time, back to Kansas to Caney for a time, moving one more time in 1957 to Coffeyville where they made established their family home.

 

Mr. Thompson completed his high school education in Cedar Vale, Kansas; following that, he served his country in the United States Air Force and upon completion of his term of active duty, he received his honorable discharge.  Margaret spent her life tending to and helping provide for their family and home.  Some other things she enjoyed were gardening, piecing and quilting quilts and sewing.  It wasn’t long before all her family and friends knew of her sewing talents; she was always happy to help when anyone needed their sewing done too.  Margaret worked for several years at the First National Bank in Coffeyville.

 

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, David Thompson and wife, Kathleen of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Robert Thompson and wife, Cheryl of Tyro, Kansas, Roger Thompson and wife, Tammy of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, John Thompson and wife, Lisa of Hope Hull, Alabama; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; brother, Jimmie W. Smith of Hill City, Kansas; sister, Eva Lee Sanborn-Seaton of Coffeyville, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thompson in December 3, 1995; son, Gary Lynn Thompson; brother, Evertt Leon Smith and wife, LaDonna; sister-in-law, Shirley Smith.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.  Ministry will be provided by Sean K. Rook.

 

Family Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.

 

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Harry Hynes Hospice; contributions can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd Coffeyville, KS 67337.
