Obituaries


Irene Shields, 77, of rural Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at her home. 

 

Irene was born on December 24, 1941 in Neodesha, Kansas to Eugene and Blanche (Bowen) Stevenson.  She grew up in Sycamore, Kansas where she attended, graduating from Sycamore High School.

 

She moved to Coffeyville, Kansas and worked for USD 445 for over 25 years on the custodial staff.  She loved her job and she loved seeing the children.  She also worked for a time as a greeter at Wal-Mart. 

 

Irene was a member of the Abundant Life Temple in Coffeyville.  She enjoyed painting, mowing her law, landscaping and gardening.  She collected jewelry, raised cows, and loved her pets. 

 

She is survived by her sister in law, Phyllis Stevenson; nieces, Sarah, Jaclyn and Patricia Stevenson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Blanche Stevenson; brother, Roscoe and a cousin, Elden. 

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Lewark Church of God at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Darren Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. 

 

Friends may call on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

 

The family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Friends of Animals; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
