John "Jack" David Maitlen III

John “Jack” David Maitlen III, 72, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019.

He married Berlene (Allen) Smith in June of 1990.  Of that union he gained a step son, Grady Smith.  The couple made their home in Coffeyville.  Berlene preceded him in death on August 22, 2002.

Jack lived in Coffeyville, Kansas until 1980.  He then moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma until taking a job in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he worked for American Airlines as a machinist until his retirement on August 1, 2011.  He returned to Coffeyville where he has been ever since.  Jack was a member of the Transport Workers Union Local 514.

Jack loved being a father.  He wasn’t perfect but he did the best he could and made sure his girls always knew he was in their corner.  He listened to his rock music loud and drank his Fosters cold.  His health had declined terribly while at the nursing home however, Medicalodges made it possible with the help of his family to get him on one last ride with his brother.  He enjoyed his time out fishing and going to casinos to try his luck.  Most of all he loved the time he spent with his family; especially the time he got with his grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his children, Bonnie Maitlen of Overland Park, Kansas, Kaci Buchanan of Coffeyville, Kansas; step son, Grady Smith and wife, Debbie of Coffeyville, Kansas; seven grandchildren; brother, Tom Maitlen and wife, Karen of Brandon, Mississippi and sister, Carolynn Holsinger of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
