Harold Eugene Reynolds, 80, of Coffeyville, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at home with his family by his side.
Harold was born June 4, 1939 to Charles and Julia (Richmond) Reynolds in Pillager, Minnesota. He was the oldest of three boys.
He started school in Pillager then his family moved to Redfield, South Dakota when he was 7 years old; he went on to earn his high school dip
loma in Redfield. While in high school, at only 16 years old, Harold joined the U.S. Army National Guard. He was active in the National Guard for 4 years and remained as IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve) for several more years until he was honorably discharged.
After high school he worked for a newspaper print shop for a year. He then attended Lab School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon completion of his schooling he worked for 10 months at Faulkton Hospital as a lab technician. In 1966 he moved to Caney, Kansas where he was the Lab and X-Ray Technician for the Caney Hospital for the next 10 years.
After settling into his life in Caney, he took an interest in learning to fly small planes. In the spring of 1967 he met his future wife, Gwen Craig. For their first date, Harold took Gwen flying in an airplane. The loving couple was married on December 27, 1967 in Poteau, Oklahoma. They had two daughters and a son that were all born at Caney Hospital. The couple made their home in Caney.
After his employment at the Caney Hospital, Harold worked for KOPCO Printing Company for 3 years.
Harold and his family were members of the First Christian Church in Caney where he served as a Deacon. He was an active member of the Jaycees and the Lions Club for several years.
In 1978, he went to work at Farmland Industries in Coffeyville, Kansas. In 1979, he and his family moved to Coffeyville. He remained employed with Farmland for 28 years until his retirement. After moving to Coffeyville, the family joined the Tyro Christian Church. He belonged to the Tried and True Sunday school class and the Joy group.
In addition to his passion for flying, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood working; he was an avid reader. Most often he would spend his free time fishing. His wood working often resulted in items made for friends and family. He also enjoyed trips back to Minnesota to visit family and attend the family reunions.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gwen Reynolds of the home; two daughters, Michelle Stoughton and husband, Jim of Memphis, Indiana; Lynette Wherrell of Coffeyville, Kansas; son, Craig Reynolds and wife, Trisha of Hobbs, New Mexico; ten grandchildren, Lauren Harrington and husband, Dillon, Tyler Cox and fiancé Katelyn West, Tandi Cox, Matthew, Brett and Kelsey Stoughton, Taylor Vaughan, Miah, Clayton and Chase Reynolds; two great grandsons, Bentley Harrington and Baker Harrington (due in September); one brother, John Reynolds and wife, Marilyn of Urbana, Missouri; sister-in-law, Marcelline Reynolds of Mt. Vernon, Washington along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Julia; a stepfather, Ed Gochanour; brother, Paul Reynolds; granddaughter, Parker Wherrell; and son-in-law, David Wherrell.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas. Evangelist David Bycroft will officiate.
Friends can sign the guest register on Friday, July 19, 2019 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Family will greet friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or to Tyro Christian Church Pre School: Birth to Kindergarten; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
