Betty Marie Martin

Betty Marie Martin, 91, of rural Wann, OK passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

 

She was born on December 20, 1927 at the family home in rural Wann to Charley and Susie (Huckabee) Claypool. Betty grew up on the family farm and attended country schools near her home, she graduated from Wann High School.

 

On December 26, 1944 she married Clarence A. Martin, Jr. at Independence, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in rural Wann. Betty taught school for a short time at Oakdale School and later assisted her husband in operating their trucking business and their farm and cattle operation.  She also worked at Medicalodges, Inc. in Coffeyville, KS for many years until her retirement.    Her husband preceded her in death on September 28, 1998.

 

Betty was an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in rural Wann. She was always involved in church activities especially helping in the kitchen for church events. She enjoyed gardening and loved playing dominoes and cards with her grandchildren. But her greatest love was gathering he family around her to enjoy a meal and spend time together.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanie Martin of rural Wann and her friend Mike Hasseplug, and Arlene Brothers and husband Dob of rural Cherryvale; four grandchildren Justin Martin, Jim Bob Martin, Jason Brothers, and Amy Brothers; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Brothers, and Colton Dob Brothers; and special nephew who looked in on Betty every day and helped around the farm, Tim Carson and wife, Charlotte.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Bobby Joe Martin, one Jack Claypool; and four sisters, Bonnie Lumm, Leona Moore, Mary Perkins, and Edith Anderson.

 

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in rural Wann with Pastor Kyle Clutter officiating. Burial will be in the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.

 

Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Youth Group; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
