Virginia Nadine Hartzell

Virginia Nadine Hartzell age 84 of Independence, KS and formerly of Coffeyville, KS passed away on May 29, 2019 at her home surrounded and comforted by her loved ones.

Virginia was born in Coffeyville on April 5, 1935 the next to youngest of 14 to Robert and Maggie (Bradshaw) Miller. She attended and graduated from Cedar Bluff School. She met Carl Hartzell and the couple was united in marriage on April 29, 1963 in Miami, OK. The couple was blessed with a son and a daughter and Virginia gained 3 sons from this union. She took pride in raising her children and caring for the home. Something that came as second nature to Virginia was caring for others and always putting their needs as top priority. Once the children were older she went to work at Emmerson where she devoted over 22 years of dedicated service. In her retirement, not being one to sit around she found employment at Burger King and then Chartwell’s Cafeteria at Coffeyville Community College where some of the toughest football and basketball boys adored her and call her grandma and she loved them back. Virginia loved her family and took every opportunity she could to spend her time with them. She also loved spending time in her gardens; she raised some produce that was out of this world and some of the most beautiful flower beds. What bounty she didn’t share with friends or family she would can in order to prepare a great tasting dish long into the winter. Any spare time her and Carl had they were off traveling the United States in their travel tailor or pulling it down to Branson to enjoy the sights and shows.

Virginia’s memories will live on with her daughter, Carla Andres her husband Danny, step-sons, David Hartzell, Jewell Hartzell his wife Vicki and Forrest Hartzell his wife Judy, sister, Judy Hartzell, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She now rests with her parents, her husband Carl, son James Hartzell, brothers Tommy and Roy Miller, sisters, Aileen King, Geneva Russell, Bonnie Despaw, Dora Russell, and Donna Sollman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel at 2:00pm with Pastor Brian Norvell officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
