Dale Almond Dewey

Dale Almond Dewey, longtime former resident of Coffeyville, passed at the age of 93 in Longview, Texas at the Brookdale Assisted Living Facility surrounded by his family on May 22, 2019.

Dale Almond Dewey was born June 10, 1925 in Edna, Kansas to Omar Almond and Nellie Grace (Banzet) Dewey. He attended Bartlett School District 110.  On February 2, 1945 Dale married the love of his life, Betty Ray Abston in Alexandria, Louisiana.   He had joined the Air Force in August 1943 and received an Honorable Discharge in March 1946 as Flight Maintenance Gunner.  After his discharge the couple made their home in Coffeyville where they had three children then moved to Edna, Kansas.  Later they moved back to Coffeyville and after 35 years at the CO-OP refinery he retired in 1983 as Foreman of the Pipefitters Group.

Then the couple moved to Afton, Oklahoma to be at Grand Lake because Dale and his wife had a passion for living the lake life.  Together they enjoyed all it had to offer, especially fishing and boating.  After a number of years they moved to Longview, Texas to enjoy life on Lake Cherokee and then back to Afton once again to live on Grand Lake.  In 2009 the couple made their final move back to Longview, TX to be closer to family.  When Dale’s wife passed in 2016 the couple had been married over 71 years.

Throughout his life Dale was always available to help others and could fix almost anything.  He was a lifelong member of the VFW and looked forward to being Santa Claus at the VFW holiday parties.  He also enjoyed bowling and playing dominoes.

He is survived by his son, Donald Dale and his wife Simone, daughters, Nancy Jane and Debra Sue, as well as six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren as well as 4 great-great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two younger brothers and three younger sisters.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am on Tuesday May 28, 2019 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS.  Graveside services honoring Dale's life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:30 am at the Veterans Memorial Patio located across the street from the chapel.  The family has requested memorial contribution be made payable to either Coffeyville VFW or Heartsway Hospice, 4351 McCann Rd, Longview, TX 75605 and may be left in care of the chapel.  To leave a message of condolence for the family visit www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com
