Thomas Melton Harmon

Thomas Melton Harmon, 79, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at his home.

 

Tom was born on February 15, 1940 in Miami, Oklahoma to Raymond and Maggie (Melton) Harmon.  He grew up in Valeda, Kansas .  He graduated high school at Labette County.   

 

He served a summer internship in Wichita, Kansas for an aircraft company.  He was selected as 1 out of 7 people in the U.S. to get an internship with GM in Kansas City, Kansas.  In addition to that he went through additional training in Oklahoma City and was GM certified Chevy Mechanic.

Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged.

 

Tom worked as a mechanic in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Caney, Kansas before settling in as a mechanic at Funk Manufacturing currently known as John Deere in Coffeyville.

 

Tom was united in marriage to Susan Snell.  The couple made their home in Caney, Kansas where they raised their four children.  The couple later divorced.  He later remarried to Connie Lay.  The couple made their home in Valeda, Kansas.  The couple later divorced.

 

Tom attended church at Tyro Christian Church.  He was a member of the Caney Masonic Lodge and served at one time as Grandmaster.  He was quite a story teller.  He loved to golf and watch his great grandkids play ball.

 

Surviving to honor his memory are his sons, John Harmon and wife Ginger, Miles Harmon and Mike Harmon, all of Caney, Kansas; grandchildren, Drew Harmon, Chance Harmon, Jordayne Theiss and husband, Michael, Josh Harmon; great grandchildren, Alexyus and Tucker Theiss and Madison Harmon.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Maggie Harmon; his first wife Susan (Snell) Harmon; daughter, Ann Marie Harmon; siblings, Jill Reed, Jack Harmon and an infant brother.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas.  Evangelist David Bycroft will officiate.

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Family will greet friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6pm-8pm.

 

The family suggests memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society; contributions can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Coffeyville, KS 67337.
