In Oklahoma, the Friday night lights rarely get a break. Nowata wrapped up its seven-on-seven contests after participating in the Claremore league. The Ironmen also worked in eight extra as a part of a regional tournament in Bixby put on by Skordle. Nowata got a chance to compete against top-tier competition all month long. Ironmen head coach Bob Craig says he learned what the team needs to improve.
Returning starting quarterback Skylar Thornton showed a lot of potential but still made a few mistakes. Nick Steigerwald and Josiah Clark showed impressive versatility at different wide receiver spots as well. Coach Craig thinks that versatility will be essential this fall, but it is still a work in progress.
The Ironmen will take the next week off for the Fourth of July holiday. We’ll have on other area football teams as the season approaches.
