Jackson County Rejects Stadium Proposal

There are questions regarding the future of the Chiefs and Royals in Kansas City, following the rejection of a sales tax that would have contributed to stadium renovations.

Jackson County, Missouri, voted no on the issue, which gave blueprints for a new Royals ballpark in downtown Kansas City, as well as major renovations to Arrowhead Stadium and the surrounding area.

KMBC's Kris Ketz says Mayor Quinton Lucas made the announcement Tuesday.

Over 58% of voters rejected the plan, which would have extended the three-eighths cent sales tax that has been paying for Truman Sports Complex, which has housed the Chiefs and Royals for a half century.

The current lease at Truman Sports Complex ends in January of 2031. The Chiefs and Royals will continue to work on revising details that would allow for the renovations.
