A young Royals pitcher will make his first career Opening Day start.

 

Left-hander Cole Ragans was announced earlier this week as the Royals' starting pitcher for the season opener, following a dominant second half of the season in 2023.

 

He says he's thankful for the opportunity to open the season.

 

Ragans had memorable moments last season, being named AL Pitcher of the Month, and having an ERA below three over the final two months. He has also overcome two serious elbow injuries, as well as a trade from Texas to Kansas City.

 

He says moments like this make the journey worth it.

 

Ragans will be on the mound when the Royals open against the Minnesota Twins in nine days.
