The Kansas City Royals have been busy this offseason with adding talent to the roster, but it's a player that's been on the team that is currently garnering attention.
Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr and the Royals have had preliminary discussions regarding a long-term contract extension. Witt has publicly said on numerous occassions that he wants to remain a Royal for the future.
Royals television broadcaster Joel Goldberg says he believes the parties are trending towards an agreement on a new deal.
Witt Jr had an incredible 2023 season, hitting .276 with 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases, the first 30-30 season in Royals franchise history. He also scored 97 runs, had 96 runs batted in, and became a much better defender at shortstop.
The Royals top young talent is just 23 years old, and may be locked in Kansas City until his 30s in the near future.
