Making one of the longest road trips of the season in Week 1 proved to be a challenge for Coffeyville, as they drop the season opener to Highland Community College by a score of 20-14.

 

The Red Ravens struggled with penalties and turnovers, giving away a fumble and interception, as well as committing 12 penalties for 115 yards.

 

Coffeyville did have the running game pick up in the second half. Ozarrion Smith scored the first touchdown of 2023 and Omiri Wiggins broke off a big play in the fourth quarter.

 

Head coach Jeff Leiker says this is a loss the team will have to learn from.

 

The Red Ravens return home this week for a matchup with the Dodge City Conquistadors on Saturday night. The game can be heard on both U.S. 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.
