Royals Trade Pitcher Cuas to Cubs

The Royals have made another trade this deadline season, sending right-handed pitcher Jose Cuas to the Chicago Cubs.

Kansas City receives outfielder Nelson Velazquez in return, a 24 year old who will report to Triple-A Omaha.

Cuas is 29 years old and signed with the Royals in 2021, before making his MLB debut last season. He has pitched in 45 games this season, racking up 52 strikeouts and a 4.54 ERA.

The move clears a spot in the bullpen for Kansas City, who will use the final two months of the season to experiment with different minor league pitchers to evaluate the future.

Velazquez is an exciting talent, hitting three home runs and five extra-base hits in just 13 games for the Cubs this season. He has played most of the season in the minor leagues, hitting 16 home runs on the season. He brings power potential to the Royals lineup, and has the ability to play all three outfield spots.
