A former Caney Valley Bullpup has been selected in the 10th round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies.

 

Right-handed pitcher Jace Kaminska was selected 292nd overall in the draft. He says the moment was surreal for him and his family.

 

Kaminska was dominant in his high school career at Caney, striking out 32 consecutive batters over a stretch and throwing a perfect game. He says after being able to overpower hitters in high school, he learned how to truly pitch during his college career.

 

The Rockies first reached out to Kaminska last month for an interview. He says the conversations that both parties had made it seem like a good fit from the start.

 

Kaminska threw 72 innings this season at Nebraska, compiling a 7-3 record and a 4.14 earned run average. He says because of his college work load, the Rockies plan to ease him in to professional baseball.

 

Citizens of Caney, supporters of Wichita State and Nebraska baseball, and now fans of the Colorado Rockies will all be paying close attention to the career of Jace Kaminska. He says the organization is getting a determined pitcher that is going to fight his way to the top.

 

Kaminska will report to the Rockies spring training complex on Saturday.
