Royals Continue to Draft Exciting Talent

The Kansas City Royals continue to bolster the farm system, adding seven additional draft picks to the 2023 class.

In the third round, the Royals selected right-handed pitcher Hiro Wyatt out of Westport, Connecticut. He's the third prep pitcher from the East Coast to be drafted by the Royals in the past three years, following 2021 first round pick Frank Mozzicato and fourth round pick Shane Panzini.

MLB Network's Jonathan Mayo says Wyatt has a devestating slider.

The fifth round saw Kansas City select outfielder Spencer Nivens from Missouri State. Nivens, a Columbia, MO. native, nearly didn't make the Missouri State roster in 2022.

Mayo says he transformed into a dominant hitter and could project as a future center fielder.

The Royals rounded out Day 2 of the draft with left-handed pitcher Jacob Widener from Oral Roberts. Roberts is a 6-foot-7 lefty with devestating stuff, tallying 80 strikeouts in only 49 innings last season. He has drawn comparisons to Randy Johnson due to his delivery and frame.
