Royals Select Top High School Catcher in First Round

The first round of the 2023 MLB Draft took place last night in Seattle, and the Kansas City Royals walk away with the top high school catcher in the country.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred made the pick announcement of the newest Royals first round selection.

Blake Mitchell has been considered one of the top high school players in the class for multiple years now, being named male athlete of the year in the state of Texas back to back years.

MLB Network's team of draft analysts say that Mitchell has top tier arm strength, and is an exciting prospect to keep an eye on.

Mitchell is just 18 years old, and should slot in as a Top 5 prospect in the Royals organization. Kansas City also selected high school right-handed pitcher Blake Wolters with the 44th overall pick, as well as collegiate center fielder Carson Roccaforte with the 66th overall pick.
