Garden City Alum to Umpire MLB All-Star Game

A Kansas native and Garden City Community College alum has been announced as the lead umpire in next week's MLB All-Star Game.

Todd Tichenor will be the home plate umpire and crew chief for the game in Seattle on July 11th.

Tichenor played baseball at Garden City CC from 1995 until 1997. He says that the people that came into his life while at Garden are still in his life to this day, and that he owes a lot to the school and the people.

This will be the second All-Star Game for Tichenor, also umpiring in the 2014 game in Minneapolis. He became a full-time MLB umpire in 2012, and was promoted to crew chief earlier this year.

Tichenor has been umpiring MLB games for 14 seasons, and was on the crew for the 2020 World Series. He still calls Kansas home, residing in Holcomb.
