Royals Rookie Emerging as Key Contributor

In a year of major struggle for the Kansas City Royals, the organization may have discovered their next star infielder as they move towards a new era of competitive baseball.

Rookie Maikel Garcia was a top five prospect in the system entering the 2023 season, but was mainly regarded for his defensive ability and speed. Many scouts believed that his hitting tools would take time to develop.

While the power numbers haven't been eye-popping just yet, the rookie has been impressive at the plate, particularly this week. Garcia was moved to the leadoff spot over the weekend and since then has hit 12-for-19 with six runs scored, three runs batted in, two stolen bases, and only three strikeouts.

Garcia, with the help of translator Luis Perez, says that he is able to consistently put the bat on the ball because of how well he sees it.

Garcia is still just 23 years old, and is hitting .297 with three home runs, 21 runs batted in, and 13 stolen bases this season.
