Salvador Perez Named Royals All-Star Rep

The Royals captain has been named to the All-Star Game for the eighth time in his Major League career.

Catcher Salvador Perez was named as the team representative for the 2023 All-Star Weekend in Seattle next week. Perez is one of three catchers on the American League roster, joining Texas' Jonah Heim, and Baltimore's Adley Rutschman.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro made the announcement to the clubhouse before Sunday's win over the Dodgers.

This is the first All-Star selection for Perez since 2021, when he tied the MLB home run lead with 48 homers. The 33-year-old veteran is hitting .253 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in this season.

He says that Kansas City has become a second home for him and his family.

Perez is second in franchise history with his eight All-Star appearances, behind only Hall of Famer George Brett with 13.
