Strong Start Lifts Ravens Over Mavericks

A strong start for the Coffeyville women's basketball team led the Red Ravens to a 77-59 blowout win of Northwest Kansas Tech Saturday afternoon.

Coffeyville didn't trail for a single moment in Saturday's game. In fact, the Ravens led by double digits for a vast majority of the contest, taking just 4 minutes to jump out to a double-digit lead. That margin eventually grew to 16-0 before the Mavericks grabbed their first points of the game. Martina Aeschliman was instrumental for the Ravens during this period, hitting three consecutive 3-pointers off of the bench.

From there, it was simply playing keep away, as the Mavericks slowly came into their own. Although Coffeyville briefly led by as much as 21, they wouldn't be able to get much further away than that. Fortunately, they wouldn't have to, as a steady stream of points from leading scorers Faith Simpson and Paige Scott kept NW KS Tech at arm's length. With one final run in the game's final minutes, the Ravens took their first victory of 2022, 77-59.

Simpson led all scorers with 15, while Scott finished with 10. Aeschliman added 3 more points in the second quarter to finish with 12. The Red Raven women are now 12-4 on the season, 6-4 in conference play.
