Big 12 Basketball Tournament Cancelled

The Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City has been canceled as concerns continue to mount over the spread of COVID-19 in the country. The league is following SEC and the Big Ten who also cancelled their tournaments on Thursday.

The Big 12 had previously said they would limit attendance at the games, which were set to continue through Saturday. The NCAA on Wednesday also announced that attendance would be limited at the upcoming tournaments, set to begin next week.

Mayor Quinton Lucas issued a state of emergency for the city on Thursday morning, banning events of more than 1,000 people for at least the next 21 days.

All of this comes on the heels of the NBA suspending their season on Wednesday night after the Oklahoma City / Utah game was cancelled due to Utah star Rudy Gobert testing positive to COVID-19 coronavirus.  Major League Baseball, MLS and the NHL followed suit on Thursday. As of Thursday, all state basketball tournament games in Kansas are still on according to KSHSAA with the remaining two days undetermined.

In Oklahoma, the OSSAA has postponed all their state basketball tournaments.
