CCC Picks Up Wins Before Break

A couple of big nights on the bench helped propel both Coffeyville basketball teams to victory on Wednesday. The women defeated Garden City 83-70 while the men picked up a 62-58 victory of their own.

The women's game was a back and forth affair at first, with the Red Ravens and the Bronc Busters tied at the half. However, the second half would be dominated by Coffeyville, and more specifically by Faith Simpson. Simpson would not start the game, but in 20 minutes of work, she finished with a season-high 28 points on 11-14 shooting. Ania Markowska (14), Julia Calafell (11), and McKenzie Murrel-Patton (10) also finished in double digits for Coffeyville. Kailyn Lay picked up 7 assists and 4 steals for herself as well.

Meanwhile, the men sought to break a two-game losing skid by defeating a Garden City squad coming in at 0-3 in Jayhawk Conference play. Despite a close game, Coffeyville would control both halves, walking out with the 4-point victory. Tony Hutson would be key to the effort, coming off of the bench and picking up 15 points and 4 rebounds. Tylor Perry (11) and Meikkel Murray (10) would also donate their scoring efforts to the cause as well.

The women improve to 13-2 and 3-2 in conference play, while the men improve to 10-5 and 3-2 in the conference this season. The Red Ravens will now both take a long, extended break for the holiday season, returning January 4 for a home matchup with Seward Community College. As always, those games will be broadcast on US 98.1, KUSN.
