FKHS Split to Start the Season

Field Kindley opened up their basketball season across state lines last night in the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament in Nowata. The Nado girls faced the top seed Oklahoma Union and jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first but the Lady Cougars quickly took the lead to end the first quarter 11-7 and didn't look back as OKU won 57-25. First year head coach Anita Walker and the FKHS girls will take on Mannford in the losers bracket on Friday at 4:00.

The Coffeyville boys came into the tournament as the five seed facing the host team and the four seed Nowata. Lots of question marks for Coffeyville heading into this game after losing four starting seniors and eight seniors in total. Junior Tariq Logan and Senior Brendan Graham were the only returning players who saw starting minutes last season. The newcomers and young guys helped FKHS come away with the close win over the Ironmen 51-49. Sophmores Cadden Herring and Ethan Viets both had big games off the bench with Viets hitting multiple threes and Herring scoring and rebounding inside. The Nado will take on the top seed Mannford on Thursday at 8:30 in the semifinals.
