Neodesha Drops Season Opener at Home

The Neodesha Bluestreaks Varsity Boys Basketball team opened the regular season on Friday night with a 66-58 home loss to Fredonia.

Turnovers and missed free throws were key standouts in the ball game as Neodesha committed 34 turnovers while Fredonia had 21 turnovers. The Bluestreaks hit 17 of 33 free throws while the Yellowjackets connected on just 19 of 32 from the free throw line.

Neodesha got off to a slow start but battled back to give themselves an opportunity late in the game. The Bluestreaks were down by as many as 14 in the first half but started the second half on a 12-0 run to eventually take the lead but Fredonia would come back strong and eventually hold on for the win.

Neodesha posted two in double figures with Toby Curtis scoring 17 points while Maddux Johnson added 15. Fredonia was led by Layne Mayeske who posted a game high 23 points.

Up next, Neodesha will play in the Wildcat Classic in Yates Center while Fredonia will make a road trip to Belle Plain on Monday night.
