IFD Responds to RV, Carport, Shed and Vehicle Fire

The Independence Fire Department responds to multiple items on fire at a property overnight.

This morning just after midnight, IFD was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 612 E. Cedar. While en route, dispatch advised that a camper was fully involved in fire and located in close proximity to nearby structures.

Upon arrival, fire personnel found a camper that had already burned to the ground, along with a wooden carport over the camper fully involved in fire. A medium-size shed was heavily involved, and a passenger vehicle was also on fire.

Firefighters were able to successfully prevent the fire from spreading to the home on the property and to a neighboring business to the west. However, both structures sustained some damage. The residence experienced melted siding on the west side, and the business sustained damage to several mini-split units on the east side of the building.

There were no injuries associated with this incident. The cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature.

The Independence Fire Department reminds residents to ensure electrical systems and equipment are properly maintained to reduce the risk of fire.
